Mafia Wars, Growing your Mafia

First thing you need to do is build a large gang.
When you first join the game on Facebook, invite at least 5 of
your friends who will share the interest of having fun playing
Mafia Wars. Inside your Facebook, account, you may click on
Friends, and send private message telling them about the latest
craze on Facebook.

Do also post something on your wall about your developments
and share your experiences playing the game.
